Red Carpet Roundup: 20 Best Dressed From The Cannes Film Festival
While the Academy Awards are well known for bringing out the best in red carpet fashion, I have always found the Cannes Film Festival to be where the couture magic really happens.
The event runs for 12 days celebrating the best in film with a beautiful French Riviera backdrop. As always this year’s event did not disappoint when it came to gorgeous gowns. I usually am on the edge of my seat with what Blake Lively will bring to the Croisette, but the blonde beauty skipped this years festivities leaving me on the look-out for a new Cannes queen. Which ended up coming in the form of a pretty princess named Elle Fanning. I am always eager to see what Elle brings to the red carpet and thanks to her amazing stylist Samantha McMillan, she most definitely left her mark at the festival. Narrowing down only one of my favorite looks from her was nearly impossible-which is why you’ll see two. Her show-stopping Vivienne Westwood masterpiece took my breathe away. If it looks familiar the custom-made design shares similarities with Angelina Jolie’s unforgettable Westwood wedding gown, which was adorned with doodles from all of her 6 children. Elle’s train took the same artistic route, with a splattering of whimsical flowers, hearts, arrows, and even her signature. The 19 year old star is a self proclaimed “unicorn flower child at heart” so it only made sense her favorite mythical creature was the centerpiece of the mural. Bollywood star and L’oreal ambassador Aishwarya Rai is a regular at the festival and never fails to make my mouth drop with her incredible beauty and keen fashion sense. This year she floated all around Cannes in one gorgeous creation after another. I was especially floored by her pale blue confection from Michael Cinco’s Fall 2017 Dream of Versailles collection. If you are going to make a memorable entrance, wearing layers of cool blue couture is how it’s done. The one thing I cringe at time and time again is the sheer trend that just won’t die. It became a constant on this year’s red carpet, making the tasteful ball gown and tulle moments all the more desirable.
Cannes is also filled with loads of parties and galas with just as much fabulous fashion, but I kept my top 20 strictly to the main red carpet. A-List actresses, top models, and international stars all had a hand in making my choices quite difficult. You might be surprised to see no Diane Kruger on my list. The German stunner has always been a fashion favorite of mine, but she failed to give me a ‘wow’ moment at this year’s events. Luckily I had no problem finding plenty of gowns to gush over.
