Fresh Off The Runway: Tom Ford Spring 2018 RTW
Since his days at Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci I have always loved the work of Tom Ford. Since taking on his own brand that love has only grown.
The handsome designer debuted his Spring 2018 collection as a kickoff to New York Fashion Week on Tuesday evening, and as usual he did not disappoint. While Mr. Ford is very well known for his love of black (which is a big reason he’s a favorite of mine) this collection was surprisingly filled with lots of color. Of course, these are spring pieces so I suppose color is somewhat expected, but it was more vivid than I would have expected. Bright pink suits with impeccably cut jackets, sequin mini dresses (honestly, they might even be shirts), sorbet hued trenches, and so much more. There were of course a few showstopping gown moments, and the not so basic black designs that naturally made my list of favorites. The thing I think I enjoy most about this collection is the 90’s throwback vibe it exudes. It reminds me a time when real supermodels ruled the world. It’s all about glamour. Real, in your face glamour. The exact aesthetic that put the designer on the map. This collection is definitely for a cool girl, alady who isn’t afraid to be sexy and knows exactly who she is and what she wants. Which, when you think about is really what the Tom Ford woman is all about.
