Beauty Report: Mac Cosmetics Shiny Pretty Things Holiday 2018 Collection

Since I have been buying and collecting holiday makeup for over 20 years, I can honestly say Mac Cosmetics was the very first brand that I remember getting really excited about each Christmas.

The packaging and products have all changed over the years, but the one thing that hasn’t is my curiosity for what they will come out with next. When I first saw this year’s collection I must say I was a little disappointed. When you have been around as long as Mac has I suppose it’s hard to come up with something no one has ever done, especially now that the beauty community is bombarded with products. But everything from theme to the actual items left me a little underwhelmed. The pieces that did catch my eye were the stunning “Snowflushed” Skinfinish (a gorgeous pink with gold shift highlighter) pressed in the shape of a bow, and the pressed glitter eye shadows. I ordered mine the second they went live, and look forward to seeing how they perform in person. I was kinda hoping they would team up like they have in the past with an upcoming film for the holidays like “The Grinch”, “Mary Poppins” or “The Nutcracker and The Four Relams”, but it looks as if other companies went that direction instead.

While Shiny Pretty Things doesn’t feel like Mac’s usual creative, head-turning style (remember the Mariah Carey collection?) it is still a beautiful effort. For someone who hasn’t collected over the years I can see this being a great place to start, but for myself I am missing the old days of Mac.
