GorJess Travels: Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion Exhibition
Iris van Herpen is easily one of the best when it comes to Avant-garde fashion. Her use of unusual materials such as umbrella rib and woven metal helped changed the way people viewed fashion. She also introduced 3-D printing to the world of fashion design, opening a whole new door of possibilities.
I recently had the opportunity to visit her Transforming Fashion exhibition in Cincinnati and I must say I was blown away. I have been to several fashion exhibitions, but this was on a whole other level. To view these pieces in person, to see their construction and details, and to even get to feel some of them was truly an amazing experience. As I stood in front of each dress and shoe I made sure to drink in every little component that made it such a magical piece of art. The science and architecture in Ms. Herpen’s work are like nothing I have ever seen, she is unequivocally an innovator in her field.
Since photos were allowed at the particular exhibition I of course snapped away in an attempt to capture the unbelievable beauty of these gorgeous designs. From skeletal dresses to horn heeled boots, I shot my personal favorites and you can see them all in the gallery below. Also, if you are in or around the Cincinnati area the exhibition runs now through January 7th. Fashion lovers won’t want to miss this, and I applaud the Cincinnati Art Museum on such an elegant, welcoming establishment. I already can’t wait to visit again.
