GorJess Travels: BOWIE Photography Exhibition

On a cold and rainy New York City evening Getting GorJess correspondent Kathryn McGrath ventured out to the Morrison Hotel Gallery to peek at the newest photographic exhibit celebrating the Life and Career of David Bowie.
Bowie was not only a musical legend, but also a fashion and beauty icon. The exhibit has a variety of photographs taken throughout his celebrated career by acclaimed photographers such as Duffy, Lynn Goldsmith, Bob Gruen, and Mick Rock. While several of the images were taken during performances, or as part of photo shoots we were most interested in the pictures that had a more intimate quality.  While Bowie’s eccentric costumes, adventurous make-up, and various personas are on display so are candid backstage shots and even more quiet pictures where the rock superstar seems to look right through you.  While the DJ played several of David Bowie’s hits,  Kathryn took her time to get an up close look at these stunning black and white, and color photographs. Being major Elizabeth Taylor fans, we were especially charmed by a photograph of the two sharing an intimate moment during their first meeting in Beverly Hills in 1975. The now iconic picture was taken by British photographer, Terry O’Neill.

David Bowie’s colorful career spanned nearly 50 years and made him one of the most memorable artist’s to date. If you are a Bowie fan or simply appreciate amazing photography, this exhibit should not be missed.
