Get The Look: Mindy Kaling’s Essay Collection Glam

Mindy Kaling is a woman who does it all – Actor, mom, best-selling author, producer, screenwriter! Not only does Mindy wear many hats, she always does it with effortless style and joyful wit. For her latest project, a collection of humorous essays for Amazon Original, titled Nothing Like I Imagined (Except for Sometimes), Mindy cranked up the glamour giving us 6 colorful covers for each story. I chatted with the woman behind the makeup to learn the scoop on how she created each dazzling look on darling Mindy.
Celebrity makeup artist Cindy Williams has worked with “The Office” star for many years now, so needless to say they are a match made in beauty heaven. Cindy shared with me that “Mindy loves makeup and skincare, and she is always willing to try new products.” For this project in particular, Cindy took inspiration from fabulous wardrobe stylist and costume designer Salvador Perez, who “always chooses the most flattering and eye-catching looks for Mindy.” Donning striking designs by Versace, Lela Rose and Dolce & Gabbana, each cover ‘pops’ in their own way. Cindy slightly mixed up the makeup for each cover, but the core look was all about lightly smoked out rose-hued eyes, warm peachy cheeks, bronzed skin, and a glossy berry toned lip. With the sets and wardrobe packing so much punch, she felt it was important to keep the beauty look “pretty and polished without too much color.”
The essays reflect a fun insight into Mindy’s world balancing life in Hollywood, being a working mom and her relatable experiences with social anxiety. Nothing Like I Imagined (Except for Sometimes) will be available for free in both E-Book and audio for Amazon Prime and Kindle Unlimited members on October 6th. Non-subscribers will be able to purchase the collection through Mindy’s Amazon author’s page where you can now pre-order each one!
