Even though Covid-19 is still very much a huge concern in the world, the show must go on when it comes to Hollywood. The 77th Annual Venice Film Festival kicked off this week and jury president Cate Blanchett naturally brought her A-game to the red carpet (in a mask of course!)

For this year’s festival Cate (who just happens to be the event’s jury president) decided to re-wear some of her most cherished pieces from the red carpet, in her own words “beautiful things can come out of sustainability!” For the opening ceremony Cate donned a beautiful Esteban Cortaz design she originally wore back in 2015. The shimmery navy gown featuring an airy cape was instantly one I remembered, and in true Cate style, was one she still wore just as elegantly as it’s first trip down the red carpet.

One thing that was fresh and new was the Oscar winner’s luminous makeup provided by her longtime makeup artist Mary Greenwell. Mary is well known for bringing out Cate’s natural beauty and playing up her flawless complexion. On this occasion it was all about lit-from-within skin, soft, shimmery eyes and a lovely rose hued lip. One of the best things about the looks Mary creates on stars like Lady Blanchett is that they never feel fussy or overdone. The star is never the makeup, but rather the woman wearing it. A true sign of a seasoned, talented artist who knows her muse’s face like the back of her hand.
