Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet Wishlist: Jury Edition
The Cannes Film Festival is without a doubt my most favorite time of the year on the red carpet. Yes, even more so than the Oscars or the Met Gala. Cannes is 12 glorious days of red carpet glamour and the very best in celebrity fashion. Even more exciting this year is the jury which will include filmmaker Ava DuVernay, actresses Kristen Stewart and Léa Seydoux under the presidency of the one and only Cate Blanchett.
There are of course male members as well, but these four powerful women are naturally the ones I am most excited to see. I always enjoy making fashion wish-lists for big events just to see if any of them actually make the cut. Plus, it’s fun to play stylist to Hollywood’s best. After spending the last week going through gowns, I finally decided it was best to stick to recent Couture collections (or else I would never decide.) For Cate The Great and the lovely Lea it’s all about blessing us with a grand gown moment. Cate has blown me away in the past in Armani Privé creations, and the same goes for Lea in Miu Miu. Now, with Lea’s Louis Vuitton contract I am a little concerned with how many super glamorous moments we’ll get. But custom-made pieces are always a popular route with designers, and we can plan on seeing plenty of them.
For Ms.DuVernay it’s all about sticking to what works best for her. Ava has shown a love for sleeves (who doesn’t love a good sleeve?) and color, which made choosing for her a little more limited, but just as fun. Out of all of these women the one I would love to see step outside her comfort zone more than all the others is Kristen. While she is sure to be dripping in Chanel for the majority (if not all) of the festival, I’m hoping this will be her moment to switch things up. Even in Chanel, you can get in a bit of a style rut. Rather than seeing the same silhouettes she has given us many, many times I’d like to see her get as adventurous with her style as she does with her film choices. If she gives us even one big movie star moment I will be pleased.
In the gallery below I have chosen five looks for each jury member that I would love to see on that famous Cannes staircase.
